Hearing Assessments
for Self-Funded Adults
Testing
- Usually you will see the same Audiologist for the long term.
- We listen to you to determine what your hearing needs are.
- Ear wax is removed if necessary.
- We test your outer, middle and inner ears. We also assess your ability to comprehend speech in quiet and in noisy situations.
- The hearing test results are explained to you in a non-complex way.
- We advise you whether a further medical referral is required.
- We will then explain what options are available to you.
- Should hearing aids be necessary, we show you various styles and brands and help you to make an informed choice.
Fitting
A week or so later we would fit you with your hearing aids. We use a specialised fitting process where we measure calibrated speech sounds close to your eardrums to ensure you are getting the precise levels of speech to aid in understanding. Our process maximises the success of your fitting.
You are shown how to use the devices and can practice in the clinic so that you leave confident in their use.
Follow-up
A few weeks later we get you back to the clinic to ensure you are managing well and are happy with the devices. We discuss if your expectations have been met and we make any changes as required. In our practice it is rare that significant changes need to be made.
